Free Food Giveaway Coming to the DECC

Duluth, MN (February 24, 2021) – The parking lot of the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) will be busy on Thursday, February 25th, as a Free Food Giveaway will begin at 11:30 AM and continue while supplies last. There will be two large truckloads delivered carrying thirty-pound boxes of fresh food. The boxes of food are free of charge, on a first-come-first-served basis, and are available to anyone who would like them.

The event is being put on by the Duluth Building & Construction Trades Council, Northeast Area Labor Council, and United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1189, in partnership with the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation.

Craig Olson, President of the Duluth Building & Construction Trades Council, said “We’re excited about this event. It’s a chance to provide food for our neighbors and their families. We’re hoping for a great turnout so we can clear the trucks and get this food into homes.”

“This is a great community event where everyone is welcome,” said Roger Reinert, Interim Executive Director at the DECC. “Many thanks to our Duluth-area organized labor friends who have partnered to provide food for anyone in the community and surrounding region. We are thankful we have the space to provide a safe area for pick up.”
