Two Convention Centers, One Standout Destination City Side Convention Center and Harbor Side Convention Center bring the ability to easily host over 1,000 attendees under one roof. City Side Convention Center City Side provides flexibility, function, and scale in its 50,000+ square feet of event space with a ballroom, meeting rooms, and expo space. At first glance, the City Side Convention Center looks like a straightforward 90’s convention build of clean lines and practical space connected to Downtown by the skyway. But once you’re inside, it’s clear the designers were after something more playful. This place is basically a postmodern ode to a Great Lakes freighter, with a surprising architectural link to the Louvre tucked into its backstory. Walk through the glass doors and everything pulls your eyes upward: a grand staircase, a glass elevator that doubles as a ship’s mast, and two stories of bright, white, maritime-inspired space. The details are subtle but intentional—pipes that mimic ship rigging, tiny wall accents that look like rivets. It’s a love letter to Duluth’s shipping history disguised as a convention center. Past the entrance, you’ll find the 26,000-square-foot Lake Superior Ballroom, which can host 1,300 people for dinner or split into multiple meeting rooms. Below that is the Edmund Fitzgerald Exhibit Hall—named after the famous lost freighter—connected to the rest of the campus’s expo spaces. With two beautiful reception areas or the flexibility for up to 15 meeting rooms, Harbor Side Convention Center is a favorite location for wedding parties, conventions, and meetings. Harbor Side Ballroom The 12,000 square foot Harbor Side Ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows has stunning views of Canal Park and the Lake Superior harbor. The setting can host a 600 people for dinner and offers the flexibility to be divided into five separate meeting rooms.
