DECC Employees Perform Campus Clean Up for Earth Day

Duluth Entertainment Convention Center employees teamed together to help clean its campus in honor of Earth Day. Staff members took to the outdoors Tuesday to collect waste not properly disposed throughout the winter.

The DECC is consistently working to be good stewards of its building and community. This Earth Day initiative presented its team with the opportunity to beautify the campus while furthering the DECC model of sustainability established in 2003.

A three-part sustainable model guides DECC practices to achieve environmental, economic, and social stewardship. In 2018, the DECC diverted roughly 87 tons of waste from the landfill through composting, recycling, reuse, and donation. Additional green practices include community contributions to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, partnerships with Minnesota Power to replace fixtures with fluorescent and LED lighting, and installing energy-efficient art within the building.
