Weddings with a View

There are a number of wedding venues in Duluth, but only the DECC’s Habor Side Ballroom has you making vows & taking your first dance with the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge in attendance.

While the DECC has many things going for it as a venue like easy parking, excellent catering, and accessibility (less wind or rain as you use the Skywalk from the Parking Ramp), the real show stopper is being right on the water where the magic of Duluth lives.

Perhaps you’ll opt for a champagne toast on the adjacent deck overlooking the active harbor. Dotted with sailboats and maybe a 1,000-foot freighter, it will make an impression on guests.

Even before you enter Harbor Side, the vibe begins.

It starts with the art installation depicting the Big Dipper with the swirl of Lake Superior with its treasures underneath the skylights. The metallic doors bring us back to the shipping industry that permeates our region. And just a few steps inside, we often hear newcomers let out a small gasp or maybe a whistle. That’s the floor-to-ceiling views doing their magic with its million-dollar views.

The Harbor Side’s natural wood finishes and contemporary ascetics complement the light-filled spaces and high ceilings. These spaces were designed for flexible functionality. There are generous foyers for gift tables, photo collages, buffets, or whatever you can dream up.

And it’s these touches that make it memorable, not just for the couple but for their guests. Out-of-towners have many excellent hotels to choose from in Downtown and Canal Park that make your wedding and reception a completely walkable event. Park once and celebrate all weekend sounds just about perfect!

Other extras include a VIP Dressing Room, excellent for the bridal couple needing to take a breath. It’s a great place to compose yourself and enjoy the view of the William A. Irvin, the Blue Slip Bridge below and the nearby Canal Park district.  Your guests will love being in such an active part of the city.

Of course, next to the bride, the star of the day is the food. Our executive chef has an innovative menu with everything from traditional fare to specialty gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. And by making everything in-house, it ensures meals are fresh and hot. It also means we can accommodate requests and make changes because food is prepared in-house.

Our kitchen crew is passionate about using great ingredients. It’s why we cultivate excellent relationships with local and regional food creators like Northern Waters Smokehaus, Duluth Coffee Company, and A Dozen Excuses Donuts & More bakery for a real taste of the North.

We also know that you care about sustainability. You’re at the right place. The DECC has been composting its food waste for over 20 years and keeps conservation and recycling efforts top of mind.
