Duluthian to be honored!

This national event just got very local.  Lifelong Duluthian, Barbara P. Brown, learned to ice skate at the original Duluth curling club. In 1947, still in high school, she got herself to Minneapolis to audition for the touring show the Ice Follies. And…she got in!  Just a few months later after graduation, she was on a private train touring the United States and Canada for 2-years.

From her 1948 program:

“Combining ‘teen-age sparkle with sophisticated, urban glamour the famous Ice Folliettes long have been recognized as the world’s greatest precision skaters.

High standards of skating, poise, beauty and figure are required to be accepted. Trails are held in each city on tour. All bring the love of skating, bornin on the wind lakes of Canada , the frozen ponds of Minnesota or the enclosed ice rinks of California. Some have been on blades since they were able to toddle…

Pictured middle bottom, Barbara will be briefly recognized at this Sunday’s Stars on Ice event – you won’t want to miss it!

KBJR 6 will have a feature on Thursday, Dec 16 on the 10:00 PM news and on the morning news of CBS 3!

Skating Author!

Pair skating Gold Medalist, Meryl Davis is also a children’s book author!  Her inspirational book, Moon Walk: Forever By Your Side, will be available at the performance.

Embark upon a wondrous moonlit adventure with your little one as you share this special, rhyming story about the ever-growing bond of love and support between parent and child. It is often in the quiet moments of life, where we stop to pause and listen to what our children have to say that we create the greatest bonds with them.
