Things to do in Duluth – a Christmas Itinerary

Christmas-y things to do in Duluth

Duluth is sometimes called the Christmas City of the North, and we’ve got an itinerary of things you can do to create fun Duluth-y holiday memories.

And, to be brutally honest here, we’re hoping that you’ll include our offering, the Stars on Ice Holiday performance on DEC 19.

It’s just as school kids go on break and, as you’ll read below, a great part of Duluth weekend.

Here are some ideas for Friday, Dec 17- Sunday, Dec 19, 2021.

Friday, Dec 17

An evening at Glensheen Mansion

Glensheen Mansion’s Candlelit Tour

You haven’t truly experienced historic Glensheen until you’ve seen the 1908 mansion decked out in all its Christmas finery with 25 trees and other decor. Self-guided day tours run 7-days a week from 9AM – 5PM, but we think the most magical experience just might be Glensheen’s Candlelight Tour.

Visitors take in the splendor of the mansion by the glow of Christmas tree lights. You can almost picture what it must have felt to arrive there for a winter party in the early 1900s!

Glensheen’s Spirit of the Lights display – free

Also, Glensheen continues their FREE festive Spirit of the Lights display over their beautiful 12-acre estate (starting Nov 26- Jan 1).

The display is loved by locals and visitors for its intimate and natural feel. In fact, it started as a home light show on Park Point, which lasted for 20 years!

This year marks the third that Spirit of the Lights’ home has been at Glensheen where it remains free and open to the public.

Friday & Saturday Evenings | November 26 – January 1

Bonus Additional Evening Dates | December 19 – 23, 26

Stars on Ice Holiday! at AMSOIL Arena

Kurt Browning will be performing in Stars on Ice, Dec 19 at AMSOIL Arena in the DECC.

It’s part amazing athleticism, part gorgeous pageantry, and all holiday fun.

Hear the blades cut into the ice and truly experience the thrilling speed of professional figure skating as performers you’ve watched for years take the ice.

The skaters in this athletic and gorgeous holiday show have some serious bling.

We’re talking Olympic Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists, World, and National Champions at every turn (and jump!).

Meryl Davis & Charlie White – the first US pair to win Olympic Gold, will be joined by Canada’s legendary figure skater Kurt Browning to headline this special Holiday performance of the Emmy award-winning Stars on Ice.

The star-studded cast also features Olympic Gold medalist Ilia Kulik, 2014 U.S. Olympic team Bronze medalist and three-time U.S. national champion Ashley Wagner and  2018 U.S. Olympic team Bronze medalist and seven-time U.S. national championship medalist Mirai Nagasu – and others.

and, of course,

Bentleyville Tour of Lights

Bentleyville Tour of Lights is located in Bayfront Festival Park, nearby AMSOIL Arena and the DECC.

After the Stars on Ice performance, stay parked and take an easy walk from AMSOIL Arena to the Bentleyville Tour of Lights. Who knew that America’s largest FREE walk-through light display would be in Duluth?!

You can make your way through the 4 MILLION Christmas lights at Bayfront Festival Park, while enjoying complimentary hot cocoa, cookies, popcorn, and roasted marshmallows, as well as warming up at one of the many fire pits!

Get your photo taken with Rudolph, visit with Santa and tell him about your year and something special you are asking for this year, and even get to have a little chat with Mrs. Claus. Kids under 10 receive a free Bentleyville hat when visiting with Santa!

Lots of great Bentleyville information here.
