DECC and DSSO Partner for In-Person Event

Duluth, MN (November 5, 2020) – The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) is eagerly anticipating the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra’s (DSSO) second concert this Saturday, November 7.

The DSSO launched their 2020-2021 season on October 17th in Symphony Hall, becoming one of the first performing arts events in Minnesota since March with a live audience.  More than 130 in-person guests were able to attend on opening night, and a virtual option was offered for more than 400 digital attendees.  It was a successful event, strictly adhering to state and local health guidelines.  Both the DECC and DSSO have been working together to continue making improvements for the next performances.

“Over the summer, our board, staff and musicians worked hard to be able to make our fall concerts happen in a safe and thoughtful manner,” stated DSSO Executive Director Brandon VanWaeyenberghe.  “All of the musicians onstage for the first concert were emotional leading up to our performance and the feedback we received from our live and virtual audience was full of appreciation, love and gratitude.  We look forward to keeping the music alive and flowing throughout the winter.”

The DSSO is scheduled to perform in Symphony Hall again this weekend.  “Finding the balance between enjoying events like the fine arts while maintaining a safe environment can bring challenges, but we feel confident we have been able to work with the DSSO to bring a fantastic event to their guests while also protecting public health,” said Roger Reinert, Interim Executive Director at the DECC.  “The DECC is committed to continually improving protocols with every event.  We are excited for this weekend.  It’s times like these we need the Arts, now more than ever.”
