2013 Duluth Senior Expo

senior-expo-logoThe 11th Annual Duluth Senior Expo will be held at the DECC on Wednesday, October 23, from 9 am to 3 pm. The annual Senior Expo draws thousands of attendees from throughout the region and features exhibitors, screenings, live entertainment, seminars, a fashion show and much more.

This year, an all-time record number of businesses will fill the exhibit hall with information on everything to do with being or becoming a senior. “As we enter our second decade of producing the Duluth Senior Expo we are very mindful and responsive to the new senior/older Americans that are working longer, are healthier, more mobile and certainly not ready to sit back and rest on their laurels. Seniors and our perceptions of seniors have changed in the last decade,” says Tracy Lundeen, Expo creator and producer.

“With so many boomers becoming seniors, we’re seeing music, fashions and lifestyles of a new generation of seniors with much of the generation gap that was so prevalent in the 60s and 70s rapidly disappearing. The second decade of Duluth Senior Expo promises opportunities and adapting to a new generation of older Americans

The Expo offers seniors, soon to be seniors, their family members, and friends a unique opportunity to meet in person many of the top products and service providers in the region in a fun and festive setting,” Lundeen adds.

This year the Hearing Associates Entertainment Stage features the popular Rock a Billy Revue who have been entertaining crowds throughout the region for years. RBR will perform their tributes to Roy Orbison, Elvis and much more. Also scheduled is the legendary Chmielewski Funtime Band, the Top Hats and the Sassy Senior Sweatshop Zumba Fitness Group.

James B. Schomburg, an expert on Social Security planning will travel to Duluth to present at the expo at 11:15AM in the Gooseberry Falls Room. His presentation, “Social Security-The Cornerstone of Retirement Income” is being hosted by the Hermantown Federal Credit Union.” This presentation is of particular interest to people planning for Social Security ages 55 to 66.

Also appearing at the expo will be acclaimed celebrity impersonator Bruce Cusick as Jack Nicholson. Bruce will be on hand for photo opportunities and act as emcee on the Hearing Associates stage.

Admission is $6 at the door but attendees will be able to pick up complimentary tickets from exhibitors and sponsors including Duluth-Superior-Cloquet Perkins Restaurants and all Twin Ports Walgreens locations while supplies last!

Every attendee of the Duluth Senior Expo will receive a complimentary copy of the all new 2013-14 Northland Senior Resource Guide. This 40+ page color magazine lists information on hundreds of resources available for seniors throughout the upper tri-state area as well as including entertaining and informative stories.

Outside Our Back Door

The DECC is located on the shores of the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior.  Our Harbor Side Convention Center overlooks the lake and Aerial Lift Bridge.  With amazing views from the floor to ceiling windows and our roof deck just a stone’s throw away from the harbor, we are spoiled by our magnificent surroundings.  Even on an extremely cold spring day, that beauty is still present.  Yesterday the first ship of the season left under the Aerial Lift Bridge.  With a vantage point from the Harbor Side Convention Center roof deck, we watched the Mesabi Miner leave the harbor and head to Marquette, Michigan, with her cargo of coal.  She will return to Duluth on Saturday, March 23, and reload with iron ore pellets.
