part-time JOB AT THE DECC Server Summary Title Server FLSA Classification Non-Exempt Type of Position Part-Time, Event-Driven Type of Employment At-Will Hourly Wage Hourly Wage + Gratuities Department Catering Reports to Food & Beverage Manager Date of Last Revision 07/29/2021 Summary/Objective Servers are the operators of the catering department! They are responsible for efficiently running the catering operations during an event, from set up, to serving, to clean up. Schedule This position is part time with a schedule based on DECC event needs. This position will have day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week and may include some holidays. Hours scheduled per week are flexible and based on the events scheduled in each given month. We cannot guarantee a set number of hours per week. The DECC cannot always schedule a definite ending time due to the nature of the events, but an estimated time may be provided. PLEASE NOTE: The starting date for this position is flexible between an August or September start date, depending on DECC event needs. Uniform Uniforms are provided by the DECC, except for shoes. Pressed white blouse or button-up shirt, black skirt or dress pants (no leggings or jeans), black shoes (plain black tennis shoes are acceptable), and a name tag. Long hair must be pulled back. Set tables prior to events, including dishes, tableware, napkins, etc. Serve food and beverages from kitchen and/or service areas Relay special requests to kitchen Clear and/or reset tables at conclusion of each course or meal Assist with plating meals, when required Assist in clean up after meals served and wash equipment Assist in cleaning and restocking of service areas Cooperate and assist team workers with other projects as assigned Maintain a high degree of service-orientation when performing duties Answer questions and assist guests regarding food and service Assist team and/or other departments with tasks, including light cleaning, moving chairs or signage, and other event related functions Create and maintain a professional and hospitable appearance and atmosphere Follow sanitation, health, and safety protocols Competencies Respond courteously and promptly to customer needs Ability to ensure a high level of customer service Ability to adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events Ability to move quickly throughout the complex when an event(s) is located in multiple areas of the building or a supply run is required Excellent organizational and time management skills Supervisory Responsibilities None Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, you will frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can occasionally be loud (industrial kitchen equipment). Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, you are required to stand and to use your hands and arms to carry loaded food, drink and dish trays. You must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting and pushing carts. A Server must be able to navigate busy and crowded areas safely and quickly. There can be long stretches of standing in place. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s). The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources. At-Will Employment This position is at will.
