Summary/Objective
The Parking Attendant is generally the first face people see when arriving at the DECC.  Great customer service is a necessity.   The Parking Attendant is responsible for greeting incoming vehicles, collecting parking fees, directing guests to the appropriate parking areas or entrances, and ensuring an easy flow of the parking lot.

Schedule
This position is part-time with a schedule based on DECC event needs. This position will have day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week, weekends, and may include some holidays.  Approximately 10-25 hours per week.  The DECC cannot always schedule a definite ending time due to the nature of the events, but an estimated time may be provided.

Uniform
The DECC will provide t-shirts and hats with the DECC logo.

Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)

  • Greet all parkers in a professional and friendly manner
  • Monitor incoming cars for several different styles of DECC parking passes; if cars do not have pass, collect parking fee from customer
  • Share accurate directions of the Duluth/Superior area and local attractions
  • Maintain awareness of all DECC events and watch event sheets for parking information
  • Operate point of sale (POS) systems for transactions
  • Handle cash for customers and maintain an accurate cash drawer
  • Be aware of the lot layout and remaining parking spaces in order to direct customers to spaces that will maximize parking capacity
  • Be aware of potentially unsafe situations/persons. Contact security or police as needed
  • Handle signage and direct traffic as needed during busier parking days
  • Cooperate and assist management and police during heavy parking events
  • Follow and encourage all safety rules and procedures
  • Respond to customer complaints and refer customers to management when necessary
  • Observe and report parking lot maintenance needs to supervisor

Work Environment
The Parking Attendant is in a small parking booth for hours at a time, and may occasionally be required to direct traffic in the parking lot amongst moving vehicles.  The pace will vary and the Parking Attendant will need to adapt quickly.  The Parking Attendant is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, such as wind, heat, wet, humid, or very cold temperatures.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Physical Demands
The Parking Attendant is regularly required to sit.  They must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, hear, and speak. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  They must be able to stand outside to direct lot traffic during all weather conditions.

Required Education and Experience

  • Basic math skills and/or cash handling experience
  • There are no minimum education requirements for this position

Preferred Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good knowledge of the Twin Ports area and local attractions preferred

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of reference checks
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.

At-Will Employment
This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.

The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
