part-time JOB AT THE DECC Occasional Server and Bartender Summary Title Occasional Server and/or Bartender Hourly Wage Hourly Wage + Plus Gratuity Job Summary Servers and Bartenders are the operators of the Food and Beverage department. They are responsible for efficiently running the food and beverage operations during an event, from set up, to serving, to clean up. Requirements & Competencies There are no minimum education requirements for this position. Respond courteously and promptly to customer needs. Ability to ensure a high level of customer service. Basic math skills and cash handling experience. Preferred Education and Experience Serving experience. Bar service experience. Basic knowledge of alcoholic beverages and mixed drink recipes. Knowledge of point of sales systems Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.) Review event sheets and ensure event areas are set up and orderly. Set tables prior to events, including dishes, tableware, napkins, etc. Serve food and beverages from kitchen and/or service areas. Relay special requests to kitchen. Clear and/or reset tables at the conclusion of each course or meal. Assist with plating meals, when required. Assist in cleaning up after meals served and washing equipment. Assist in cleaning and restocking of service areas. Cooperate and assist team workers with other projects as assigned. Maintain a high degree of service-orientation when performing duties. Answer questions and assist guests regarding food and service. Assist team and/or other departments with tasks, including light cleaning, moving chairs or signage, and other event related functions. Create and maintain a professional and hospitable appearance and atmosphere. Ensure complete set up, stocking and striking of bars. Clean, slice, and pit fruit and garnishes, as needed. Prepare ingredients needed for cocktails and other drinks. Always maintain a clean workspace area. Pour and mix drinks, based on customer orders. Follow sanitation, health, and safety protocols. Adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events. Resolve problems and difficult situations as needed. Schedule This is an occasional position that is part time with a schedule based on DECC event needs. This position will have day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week and may include some holidays. The hours scheduled per week are flexible and based on the events scheduled in each given month. We cannot guarantee a set number of hours per week. The DECC cannot always schedule a definite ending time due to the nature of the events, but an estimated time will be provided. Uniform Uniforms are provided by the DECC, except for shoes and pants. T-shirt, white blouse or button-up shirt, dress pants (no leggings or jeans), black shoes (plain black tennis shoes are acceptable), and a name tag. Long hair must be pulled back.  Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, you will frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud (industrial kitchen equipment). Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, you are required to stand and to use your hands and arms to carry loaded food, drink and dish trays. You must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting and pushing carts. A Server must be able to navigate busy and crowded areas safely and quickly. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s). The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources. At-Will Employment This position is at will.
