part-time JOB AT THE DECC Guest Services Attendant Summary Title Guest Services Attendant FLSA Classification Non-Exempt Type of Position Part-Time, Event-Driven Type of Employment At-Will Hourly Wage $10.75 Department Internal Operations Reports to Internal Operations Team Lead Date of Last Revision 04/28/2021 Summary/Objective The Guest Services Attendant is one of the first faces guests see as they enter the DECC and should present a professional and welcoming demeanor. The Guest Services Attendant assists event organizers by greeting guests, directing them to their event, and answering any questions they may have. They will perform various tasks, including light cleaning, as directed based on event, and oversee events to ensure they are running smoothly. They may often make radio calls if assistance is needed. Schedule This position is part-time with a schedule based on DECC event needs. This position will have day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week, and may include some holidays. Approximately 5-20 hours per week. The DECC cannot always schedule a definite ending time due to the nature of the events, but an estimated time may be provided. Uniform The Guest Services Attendants are expected to maintain professional grooming standards. They must provide their own black shoes (not athletic sneakers), black socks and black slacks (jeans are not allowed). The DECC will provide polos or t-shirts with the DECC logo. Remain highly visible and approachable during events to assist patrons Work as a team with other Guest Services Attendants to perform duties in the most professional manner possible or independently for smaller events Assist patrons to find assigned seats, resolve any ticketing or seating issues politely and effectively, or assist in searching for lost items Assist team and/or other departments with tasks, including light cleaning, moving chairs or signage, and other event related functions Maintain security by being aware of event surroundings and allow authorized access only Communicate with the Duluth Police Department and/or security as needed Distribute programs or event information to patrons as needed Scan or check tickets at entry and exit points Direct patrons through building or to facilities such as restrooms Manage difficult or emotional customer situations and respond quickly and courteously to requests for service or assistance Competencies Must show excellent customer service skills Ability to present a professional first impression for Duluth and the DECC to every guest Ability to follow organizational and safety policies and procedures of the DECC Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events Supervisory Responsibilities None Work Environment The Guest Services Attendant will be in varying work spaces based on the needs of each event. The noise level in the work environment may be moderately quiet, but may also be very loud. Earplugs are available for extremely loud events. The responsibilities and pace will vary and the Guest Services Attendant will need to adapt quickly. Physical Demands The Guest Services Attendant should be able to communicate with other DECC employees and guests and may often use a radio. They will be regularly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, talk and hear. Travel Required None Required Education and Experience There are no minimum education requirements for this position Preferred Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) OR one to three months related experience or training Additional Eligibility Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older Successful completion of reference checks Successful completion of a background check Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s). The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources. At-Will Employment This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time.
