Summary/Objective
The Cook position is a part-time position in our high volume, quality Catering and Concessions operation. Our venues offer an exciting environment with a wide range of food service styles, from casual convention meals to formal dinners prepared in our catering kitchen and concerts and sporting event fare prepared in our concessions grill and pizza kitchens.  The Cooks are responsible for quantity production of all food items at assigned kitchen station in accordance with the DECC’s standards, safety and sanitation policies.

Schedule

This position is part time with a schedule based on DECC event needs. This position will have day, afternoon, and/or evening shifts scheduled on various days of the week and may include some holidays.  Hours scheduled per week are flexible and based on the events scheduled in each given month. We cannot guarantee a set number of hours per week. The DECC cannot always schedule a definite ending time due to the nature of the events, but an estimated time may be provided.

Uniform
Cook shirts and chef coats are provided by the DECC.

Black pants or jeans (no holes) and sneakers are acceptable.

 

Essential Functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.)

  • Ensures all food product temperatures meet health department guidelines.
  • Responsible for quality and quantity of production of hot and cold foods with proper rotation practices.
  • Responsible for the production of special food items needed for banquets, public dining rooms, and concessions.
  • Operate broilers, grills, fryers, flat tops, ovens and pizza ovens.
  • Assemble, distribute, decorate, and garnish all prepared foods being mindful of appearance.
  • Assist Executive Chef and/or Sous Chef with any other needed production.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas including dishwashing and assigned cleaning projects.
  • Report any maintenance problems or other problem areas to supervisor as they occur.
  • Follow sanitation, health, and safety protocols
  • Attend all required internal meetings.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you will frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can occasionally be loud (industrial kitchen equipment).

 

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, you are required to stand and walk, use your hands and arms, talk and hear, and taste or smell. Vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. You must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching, squatting and pushing carts. There can be long stretches of standing in place.

Required Education and Experience

  • There are no minimum education requirements for this position
  • Cooking experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years hotel/restaurant cold and/or hot preparation experience or equivalent and high-volume food preparation experience is preferred.
  • Servsafe certification is preferred.

 

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of reference checks
  • Successful completion of a background check

 

  • Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.


At-Will Employment

This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.

The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
