part-time JOB AT THE DECC Convention Services – Part Time Summary Title Convention Services | Part-time Hourly Wage $16.00/hr. Per union contract, increases scheduled at 3 months and 6 months. Summary The Convention Services role has a great understanding for event space needs and can comprehend detailed instructions. They will set up event spaces, take down and reset event spaces, and service the various events held at the DECC, such as conventions, sporting events, and entertainment within the DECC Facility. Requirements and Competencies Must be able to respond quickly to requests for service and assistance. Able to comprehend detailed written instruction and use equipment and materials properly. Able to work independently and as a team, while maintaining a positive attitude. Able to move quickly throughout the complex when event(s) are in multiple areas of the facility. Able to adapt to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. Able to ensure a high level of customer service. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Preferred Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. At least one year of customer service experience is preferred. One to three months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Review detailed event sheets and follow procedures to ensure event areas are set up precisely, to the highest standards, as well as meeting the client’s expectations. Prepare, set up, and remove tables, chairs, and pipes and drapes for conventions, banquets, trade shows, meetings, and other events scheduled at the DECC. Assist DECC clients in the set-up of their events and provide courteous help and/or directions to guests, and vendors as needed. Respond quickly to requests for additional and unexpected room set ups and tasks as needed. Assist with facility cleaning and other related duties as needed. Additional duties as assigned. Schedule This position is part-time and hourly with a schedule based on DECC event needs. The hours scheduled will vary and may average 0-28 hours per week. Uniform The DECC will provide uniforms as determined by the current labor agreement. Work Environment Building Services employees are frequently exposed to various conditions including hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, wet and/or humid conditions. They are exposed to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, cleaners, equipment, and tools. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to extremely loud, around machinery, crowds, and concerts. The pace varies and Building Services needs to adapt quickly. Physical Demands This position requires walking and standing for long periods of time, and the ability to move quickly to different places. They need to use their hands frequently, and be able to see, hear, and speak often. They may be required to work at high heights, climb, crawl, or work in awkward or cramped positions. This position will often require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, squatting, bending, and maneuvering. They must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s). The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.
