Summary

Bar Service Staff

**For large concerts and events, will work approximately 8-12 events per year**

Job Summary
The bartenders are responsible for the overall bar operation at events. It’s a fun position at the best spot for events and entertainment!

Requirements and Competencies

  • Knowledge of drink preparation or service.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and focus on serving customers.
  • Ability to remain calm when dealing with disruptive patrons.
  • Ability to learn cash register software and point of sale systems.
  • Basic math skills and cash handling experience.
  • Ability to adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events.

Preferred education and experience

  • Knowledge of MyVenue Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Completion of training for Serving Alcohol Responsibly.
  • Completion of mixology, barkeeping, or other related training.
  • At least one year of related experience.

  • Review event sheets and ensure event areas are set up and orderly.
  • Ensure complete set up, stocking and striking of bars.
  • Prepare ingredients needed for cocktails and other drinks.
  • Receives and fulfills orders from patrons and waitstaff.
  • Prepares and serves liquor, mixed drinks, wine, beer, and nonalcoholic drinks as ordered.
  • Ensure that fruit and other garnishes are prepared ahead of the opening of the bar.
  • Maintain the bar and keep it clean and organized.
  • Attractively display glasses and liquor bottles.
  • Keeps bar supplied properly.
  • Ensures that customers are of legal drinking age by checking photo IDs.
  • Collect money from customers for drinks prepared and served.
  • Use proper judgment and, when necessary, refuses service to patrons who are intoxicated or disruptive.
  • Maintain a clean workspace area at all times.
  • Serve or deliver drinks to guests when required.
  • Inspect equipment and supplies to ensure smooth operations.
  • Maintain high level of customer service and ensure customer needs are being met.
  • Create and maintain a professional and hospitable appearance and atmosphere.
  • Assist team and/or other departments with tasks, including light cleaning, moving chairs or signage, and other event related functions.
  • Always follow health and safety protocols.
  • Adapt to changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Resolve problems and difficult situations as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Schedule
This position is part-time with a schedule based on DECC event needs. This position will have mostly afternoon, evening and weekend shifts and may include some holidays.

Uniform

  • Formal Events – The Bar Service Staff must provide their own black shoes (not athletic sneakers), black socks and black slacks (jeans are not allowed).
  • Casual/Sport/Concert Events – The DECC will provide polos shirts with the DECC logo. Jeans and sneakers are acceptable.

Additional eligibility requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Successful completion of reference checks
  • Successful completion of a background check
  • Successful completion of a drug test, if applicable

Work environment
The Bar Service Staff will work in different areas based on individual events. They will need to move throughout the building to gather supplies for setting up and striking the bars. They will need to access areas including pantries, walk-in coolers, and small areas behind bars. They will also interact face-to-face serving customers. The Bar Service Staff may be exposed to hot areas and also wet, humid, or very cold areas at times. The work space will vary. Some events may be low noise levels and slower paced.  Others may be extremely loud and fast paced.

Physical demands
This position will require someone that is able to stand on their feet for many hours at a time, moving quickly to different places based on needs.  The Bar Service Staff will need to use their hands frequently, and be able to see, hear, and speak often.  This position will require bending, maneuvering, and also the ability to move and lift up to 40 pounds.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements
The DECC uses USCIS Form I-9 to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired for employment. On the form, an employee must attest to his or her employment authorization. The employee is required to present the DECC with acceptable documents evidencing identity and employment authorization at the time of hire. The DECC will examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s).
The list of acceptable documents can be provided by Human Resources.

At-Will Employment
This position is at will. This means if you are offered the position and accept, your employment with the DECC is for an indefinite period of time and it is subject to termination by you or the DECC, with or without cause, with or without notice, and at any time. Nothing in this job description or any other policy of the DECC shall be interpreted to be in conflict with or to eliminate or modify in any way, the at will employment status of this position.

The at will employment status of an employee of the DECC may be modified only in a written employment agreement with that employee which is signed by the Executive Director or the Chair of the DECC Board of Directors.
