DECC Employee of the Month: Rick Berchild

December Employee of the Month

Rick Berchild, Blue Bridge and Guest Services

Rick served four years in the military and 26 years as a Police Officer before joining the DECC five years ago. He was once recognized as “Police Officer of the Year” in the state of Wisconsin. His role here started out as a Blue Bridge Operator, but has morphed into a customer service role he is proud of. Rick said his favorite part about his job is being able to help the tourists, especially those new to Duluth.

Rick greets visitors, provides directions or recommendations, and goes out of his way to leave them with a positive experience. He appreciates that employees are recognized at the DECC for setting standards, treating our visitors with a high level of customer service, and overall for a job well done.

When Rick isn’t busy working, he enjoys spending his time taking care of his home, doing lawn work, or walking for exercise. He is an avid reader of many topics including fiction, mysteries, biographies, and poetry. He has a collection of Pulitzer Prize novels that he has been collecting since his college days.

Rick is a valued employee and we are honored he is able to be celebrated as we wrap-up 2019 here at the DECC. Congratulations, Rick!
