William A. Irvin Opening For The Season

The William A. Irvin will open for the 2011 season on April 22.  Final cleaning and maintenance projects are underway to ensure the Irvin is in perfect condition for tours.  For the past 25 years people from around the world have toured the former ore carrier.  The Irvin was originally launched in November 1937 at the yards of the American Ship Building Company in Lorain, Ohio.  Her maiden voyage began June 25, 1938 after outfitting in Lorain. The Irvin entered final layup in 1978.  The DECC added the Irvin to the slip along the Duluth waterfront near the Aerial Lift Bridge in 1986.
